I brought the money to Serbia, where I live, and adapted the project to my community. Roma people in Serbia are marginalized still, although lots of work has been done in that field. Roma women are oppressed by men in their community and also in the Serbian broader community. To be able to sell produce, vegetables, fruits, and flowers is for many Roma people the only way to survive. Ten dollars (exchanged for Serbian dinars) is a substantial amount of money for them, and spending it to purchase produce they sell directly supports of their community.
The greenmarket experience was very joyful. The women feel proud that they can sell their products and be paid for that, it felt like the right way to spend the One Large money. I purchased several products from several sellers , which felt just, since it contributed to each of them.
