Chicago is the most racially segregated city in the U.S. I chose the woman-owned business Lifeorganics in Chatham, on the South side. The locally handmade products at Lifeorganics are organic.
The first time I visited, in 2014, CEO/co-founder Zaneta Searles spent the entire time with me. She encouraged me to try every product. I love the way the products go into my skin, and the scents are wonderful. Such a welcoming vibe.
Yesterday I drove over with my One Large $10 bill. I meet chemist Tina Steele, who works with a doctor doing naturopathic research on herbs and oils. “I am an educator… I believe in in having very educated consumers, yes I want customers for our business, but, more than anything I believe that when our consumers are educated, it forces us as producers of products to just up our game.”
I tell Tina about One Large, and I give her the information card that came with my $10 bill. She becomes quiet, reads it carefully, and says: “You don’t have any idea what this means to me. It has been such a hard month and I really needed something like this. This is great.” She photographs the $10 bill and, I discover later, posts the photo and One Large info on their Facebook page.
Tina picks some Luscious Body Butter from their Bliss collection for me, along with some body oil.
