The Dream BBQ serves heaping piles of delicious smoked meat in styrofoam trays. it sits on the corner of an intersection busy with cars in Pittsburgh"s Homewood neighborhood. I first discovered it when driving my friend and coworker John home to his house in Wilkinsburgh. We drove past an unending chain of one story row houses to our left, like a depressing saw toothed depression era socialist experiment whose contemporary imitations mirror back from the other side of the street. Then, in front of us, THE DREAM! On the side walk out front are three large billowing smokers.
Inside The Dream is dark, even in the bright heat of day. It has gumball machines, drop ceilings and stainless steel cafeteria style serving trays. I have pork ribs, mac and cheese and potato salad. There are men at a nearby table discussing last weeks Merriweather-PacQuiao match. "I thought it would be a better fight than it was" one of them says.
The Dream, on the other hand, was all it had promised.
