I had a great lunch at Ben's Chili Bowl at its new added location on H Street.
The original Ben's, on U Street, is an iconic business in DC. My son's grade school, for example, took a field trip there to meet with members of Ben Ali's family and hear about how the business was started and all the famous people, including President Obama, who have enjoyed Ben's famous half-smokes.
The new place feels more like a chain restaurant and doesn't have the character of the old place. I hope the new location will succeed. H Street is gentrifying fast, and I hope Ben's will help retain some of the neighborhood's identity.
